What's a Master Plan?

A Master Plan is a dynamic long-term planning document that provides a conceptual layout to guide future growth and development

There are currently two FCPA Master Plans for parks surrounding Royal Lake. A Master Plan for Lakeside Park is dated 1969 and a Master Plan for Royal Lake Park is dated 1973. There are no Master Plans for Kings Park West Park or Pohick Creek Stream Valley Park. The current Master Plans are concept drawings lacking significant detail, are well over 40 years old, and address less than 15% of the actual park land that surrounds Royal Lake (155 acres). A significant portion of the park amenities identified in those Master Plans have been established.
