Royal Lake Bridge — Good news! The Park Authority is replacing the bridge crossing Rabbit Branch on the Royal Lake circuit trail starting on November 3 (weather permitting). This is the large pedestrian bridge near Lakeside Park. The new fiberglass bridge will replace the existing bridge which is near the end of its useful life. Please see the attached flyer from the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) program manager for some details.
The current trail at the bridge will be impassable during installation. The Project Manager anticipates the Bridge Replacement project should be 4 weeks in total, but it is expected the bridge to be out of service for 2 weeks. If you are using the trail, please be aware and follow the construction signs.
If you have any questions about the project, please contact FCPA Project Manager Beth Iannetta at Elizabeth.iannetta@fairfaxcounty.gov or contact us at friendsofroyallake@gmail.com.
Lakeside Park Shade Structure — In other news, you may have noticed the Lakeside Park picnic area shade canopy has been removed. This was done to protect the fabric canopy during the winter. Please be assured that it will be put up in early spring.
